First IPhone Glucose Meter by Sanofi Wins FDA Approval
Sanofi’s iPhone glucose meter, the iBGStar has been approved by FDA. This product connects the AgaMatrix's glucose monitoring technology to iPhones and iPods giving users the flexibility to manage diabetes whenever, wherever.
The iBGStar blood glucometer uses the Apple iPhone and iPod touch as a visualization tool to keep track of glucose readings, carbohydrate and insulin intake, and exercise. The device can also be used independently to take readings and data will be transferred to the iPhone once the two are connected again. Test results are color coded so that high and low blood glucose results can be more easily identified. The ‘share’ function enables users to email specific data to their healthcare professional. This application can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

The iBGStar uses patented Dynamic Electrochemistry technology that provides accurate results by detecting and correcting errors caused by differences in hematocrit levels, manufacturing variations and certain environmental conditions.

The device is already available in some EU countries (Germany, France, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Italy) from early this year and will shortly be launched in America.
