Fat Sum of £1,000 as Fat Tax Likely to Be Levied on Oldham Takeaways
To combat the obesity epidemic, many fast food heavyweights like McDonald’s and KFC in Oldham may soon be levied with a £1,000 charge as fat tax, before carrying on their businesses.
This money will be diverted towards more campaigns to encourage healthy eating.

62% of the population in the area is either overweight or obese. The purpose behind the fat tax is to deter takeaways from serving fat laden food, and instead serve healthier options.

A senior council insider said: “We will do everything in our powers to make sure it goes through and are confident it will.”

David Herne, of the Greater Manchester Directors of Public Health Group, said: “We would certainly support action that seeks to address the continuing challenge of childhood obesity.”
