A new low-cost communication device has been developed by a team of Israeli engineers that can help severely disabled people communicate with their eyes.

The device is accompanied by a software that allows the user to type by just looking at letters on a screen.

EyeControl uses an infrared camera that can track the movement of the pupil. It can be used to issue a general alarm, call up pre-written sentences and type original text letter-by-letter.

EyeControl designers have created a portable technology that allows for potentially life-saving computer free interaction, using existing technologies such as headphones, speakers and Bluetooth devices.

Disabled children are highly ignored by advertisers when it comes to selecting youngsters for their ad campaigns, claim campaigners.

The device performs automatic calibration, as soon as the glasses are on. It currently works with English and Hebrew,more languages are soon to be integrated.

The developers hope to offer the device for around $250 as the currently existing systems cost closer to $5,000.
