Experts Blame Social Media for the Spread of Twitching Disorder in NY
Now about 20 teenage girls in upstate New York have reported having symptoms of a strange twitching disorder. Some parents believe that an environmental toxin is to blame for this disorder. However, so far all the tests have come negative.
Experts are now blaming the strange disorder is spreading quickly through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter owing to subconscious mimicry.Experts have diagnosed this problem as a form of mass hysteria in which an individual, usually a young woman, becomes ill during a period of stress and others from the same community, school or workplace begin to show the same physical symptoms.

Dr. Laszlo Mechtler, chief of neurology at the Dent Neurologic Institute in Buffalo, NY said, "The girls' symptoms are not physical but mental. It's as if it's a domino effect, where one girl gets it and then the others somehow copy her without really knowing that they are doing so." Experts do not know the exact neurologic pathway, but believe the common factor is stress and anxiety.

Even professor of neurology at the University of Buffalo, Lichter said, "This mimicry goes on with Facebook or YouTube exposure. This is the modern way that symptomatology could be spread."
