Drinking around two glasses of wine every day may provide protection against brittle bones in women, a new study by Oregon State University researchers reveals.
The researchers found that in women who regularly drank one or two glasses of wine every day the bone density was weaker when they stopped drinking for two weeks.
The researchers also found that the bone density was back to normal levels in less than a day once they resumed their drinking habits.
"Drinking moderately as part of a healthy lifestyle that includes a good diet and exercise may be beneficial for bone health, especially in postmenopausal women", lead researcher Professor Urszula Iwaniec said. The study has been published in the journal Menopause.
