Donor Heart from Surat Saves Life of a 53-Year-Old Man in Mumbai
A heart flown from Surat to Mumbai through a green corridor helps in saving the life of a 53-year-old man. The man’s heart was rapidly deteriorating and was severely in need of a donor’s heart. He was on the wait list for about two months.
At Mahavir Hospital in Surat, a 54-year-old man had been declared brain dead due to several injuries on his head as he met with a terrible accident. His family agreed to donate his heart, kidneys and liver which has reportedly saved six lives.

Doctors immediately transported the heart through a green corridor to Fortis Hospital in Mumbai. It took just 77 minutes to transfer the heart between Surat and Mumbai.

The donor’s heart was transplanted into the 53-year-old man on time by surgeons at the Fortis hospital in Mumbai. The timely donation had saved his life.

Dr. Anvay Mulay, chief of the cardiac transplant team, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, "The recipient’s condition was rapidly deteriorating and a transplant surgery was absolutely essential to save him. This surgery was only possible because of the courageous family of the donor. We are indebted to them as they have helped us save a precious life. The surgery was conducted and the patient is now stable. He has been moved to the ICU and will be kept under observation for the next 48-72 hours."
