by Rajshri on Apr 29 2008 2:08 PM

In yet another case of doctors being hounded by a patient's relatives, residents at Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital have gone on a strike after the relatives of a patient allegedly manhandled a doctor and a nurse.

The patient had died from chronic kidney failure and relatives took their ire out on the doctor and nurse on duty. Dr Mrigank Shekhar Sharma, president of the Resident Doctors’ Association at GTB said, "He was admitted yesterday after he had an heart attack. He was in the last stage of the disease."

He added that such incidents had occurred for the fourth time this month and doctors were feeling vulnerable. "No action has been taken regarding security arrangements within the hospital, hence we took the decision to go on strike," he said.

The doctors also want the hospital to remove security guards who are unfit and also to increase the number of personnel so such incidents are not repeated.
