In Ahmedabad city of Gujarat, a 30-year-old woman has accused her neighbour, a doctor, of raping her.

The Satellite police picked the doctor, Satish Patel, who runs a private blood bank, on Wednesday.

Remaining anonymous, the victim’s complaint informs that her husband had left for Muscat a week back and she was in need of extra cash for school fees and other bills.

It goes on to state that she had approached Dr Patel for a loan of Rs 20,000. On August 31, he called her to Prahladnagar with the promise of giving her the money. The victim then alleges that the doctor took her to room 103 of Ghungroo hotel in Gandhinagar and raped her.

She also claims he asked her to sleep with four of his friends in exchange for the money. Police officials investigating the case say the woman had first called the wife of the accused informing her of her husband’s act. Not getting any response, she then approached the Satellite police and lodged a rape complaint.

Police officials were quoted: "The doctor has been arrested and is being grilled. Both the victim and the complainant have been sent for a medical examination. The doctor has alleged that what happened in the hotel at Gandhinagar was with the woman’s consent. He has also alleged that the woman had tried to blackmail him and demanded a sum of Rs 60,000."
