Diabetes Association Urges Federal Parties to Add Tax on Sugary Drinks In Canada
Tax has been proposed on all-sugar sweetened beverages by the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) as a way to reduce the burden of type 2 diabetes.
The association called on all the federal parties to support the proposal of tax on sugary drinks, pointing out the countries, like France and Mexico, who have already introduced a similar tax to discourage soft drinks' consumption.

The association also called for two other initiatives, which include a national pharmacare program to help patients pay for their medications and expanding the disability tax credit to people with Type 1 diabetes.

According to the association, an estimated 10 million Canadians have diabetes or pre-diabetes, which cost them 14 billion dollars in health care and economic costs.
