Over the last few days, many patients are visiting government and private hospitals with fever and other problems in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state in India.
In the past five months, a total of 127 suspected cases of dengue reported in Belthangady taluk, 10 have been confirmed as dengue, according to Health Department officials.

In the same period 102 suspected cases were reported from Puttur taluk, 88 suspected cases in Sullia, 60 suspected cases in Mangaluru taluk and 58 suspected cases in Bantwal taluk.

“Dengue is quite widespread. People need not panic. Infected people need to take complete rest and follow the guidelines as prescribed by the Center,” said physician Shrinivas Kakkilaya, who has been attending to a number of suspected cases.

People should take precaution against getting bitten by mosquitoes carrying the dengue parasite, which is a dawn and dusk biter, said Dr. Kakkilaya.

The symptoms of dengue usually start with fever within four to seven days of the mosquito bite. The patient will have flu-like high fever accompanied with muscular and joint pains.
