Delhi Traffic Cops to Get Breathing Masks and Anti-UV Sunglasses to Beat the Heat
The Delhi Traffic Police department has decided to equip its personnel with breathing masks and ultraviolet (UV) protected sunglasses to deal with the heat and air pollution.
Muktesh Chander, Special Commissioner (Traffic), said, “We have provided standard quality breathing masks and UV protection sunglasses to the first batch who have to do continuous duty under the scorching sun and in the dusty atmosphere. The good thing about this anti-UV sunglasses is that it could even be worn over power glasses.”

While rising levels of pollution in the Capital have always been a cause of concern, soaring temperatures have put Delhi at high risk of ultraviolet rays.

“The breathing mask comes with a replaceable filter. This mask will save our personnel from inhaling polluted air and dust particles while performing their duty at busy traffic intersections. We have provided 200 masks and sunglasses to as many personnel in the first phase,” said Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police Traffic.

According to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting Research (SAFAR), Delhi has recorded 8.6 and 8.2 on the UV index last week, which is classified as high risk.

Long-term exposure to air pollution can cause respiratory disorders. While UV radiation affects the skin, eyes and immune system.
