Delhi: Students Fall Sick After Consuming Midday Meal At Government School
Thirty-four school children from a government school in Delhi fell ill on August 24 after consuming midday meal and were admitted to a hospital for treatment.
The students of classes 6 and 7 of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya A-Block in Jahangirpuri complained of stomach pain after eating dal-rice served as the midday meal.

They were rushed to the Babu Jagjiwan Ram Hospital for treatment.

"We got a call from the school that more than 30 students complained of stomach pain after eating the midday meal. We immediately admitted all the girls and started treatment. It was a case of food poisoning," said the hospital's medical superintendent Amareshwar Narayan.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said samples of the midday meal have been sent to the FICCI Research and Analysis Centre in Dwarka for tests.

"Samples of the midday meal have also been made available to the Mahinder Park police station house officer in Jahangirpuri. Strict action will be taken after we are provided the report of the tests," he said.

The Delhi government has ordered tests of samples for the next five days.

"The midday meal is brought to the school from a canteen in Jahangirpuri area. The subdivisional magistrate of the concerned area had been ordered to check samples of the midday meal for the next five days," Sisodia said.

He said that out of the 34 students, 25 were discharged after treatment, and only nine have been kept under observation.
