Delhi Food Safety Department Collects Food Samples for Quality Test

As directed by the Central government, Delhi’s Food Safety Department has started collecting samples of health foods, baby food and energy drinks of various brands for quality test. The moves comes a few days after the Delhi government has banned the sale of instant Maggi noodles.

"The Central government has asked to check food products. Our food and safety officers have started collecting samples of most of the packaged products. Samples from across all available brands of baby food, energy drinks, health supplements and other food samples are being picked up," said Commissioner of Food and Safety Department K K Jindal.

The collected food samples will undergo laboratory tests and results will come in a week’s time said a food safety official.

Several food products have been launched in the market without proper food approval. The food safety department will now focus on all packed food items, including imported ones. 

Delhi Food and Drug Administration conducts surprise inspections and raids of food establishments and collects samples of food items which could be adulterated, substandard or misbranded.
