A 44-year old breast cancer survivor in Britain revealed that she chose to follow a special low fat diet which included curry spices in order to battle the cancer instead of taking medication.
Plymouth resident Vicky Sewart is currently the focus of a research project that is looking into ways that lifestyle can influence breast cancer. Sewart said that she opted to follow a diet containing "superfoods", such as turmeric, which she claimed forced the cancer cells to "commit suicide".
Sewart underwent a surgery to remove a breast and lymph node in June 2008 but instead of taking Tamoxifen drug during remission, she told doctors that she would use her diet as an anti cancer drug as she was concerned about the side effects of taking Tamoxifen.
"When I told the doctors I didn't want to take it, they just advised me to keep estrogen out of my body, which is basically what the drug does. The doctors absolutely will not say that the diet is going to do anything to help the cancer in any way, other than to say a healthy diet is going to help in the fight against any disease", she said, adding that it has been four years without any sign of the disease.
