A young state-level cricketer from Madhya Pradesh called Ankit Parashar had to give up the sport due to a severe knee-joint disorder called osteochondritis dissecans. However the 21-year-old has now been given some hope after undergoing cartilage cell therapy.
Dr Anant Joshi, the orthopaedic surgeon who operated on Parashar revealed that the affected portion of the bone stops getting the blood supply in this disorder and cracks begin to form.

In this surgery, Dr Joshi and his team took healthy cartilage and cultured it before injecting the new cells into the knee. “In Parashar’s case, we took the healthy cartilage from another portion of his left knee. The cells were cultured at the RMS Regrow, a company dealing in cell therapy treatment. The cultured cells were implanted in the affected portion,” Dr Joshi said.
The surgery has offered Parashar the hope that he can one day play again.
