Condoms Do Not Reduce Pleasure from Sex

Using condoms or lubricants does not reduce the pleasure derived from sex according to a new study conducted by researchers from the Indiana University. The researchers conducted a survey in more than 1,600 adults between 18 and 59 years of age and found that majority of the participants enjoyed sex regardless of whether condoms and lubricants were used.

According to the study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, around 28 percent of the men and 22 percent of women revealed that they used condoms when having sex, though less than half of the women said that they had no idea whether the condom was lubricated.

The researchers said that majority of the participants found sex as “highly arousing and pleasurable” regardless of whether a condom was used while more than a quarter of the women said that they found sex so pleasurable that they did not know whether their partner had used a condom.

Lead researcher Debby Herbenick said that the findings as important as many do not use condoms when having sex as they believe it will interfere with sex. “We need to understand how people make choices about the products they use, or avoid using, and how these products contribute to the safety and pleasurable aspects of their sexual experiences”, Herbenick said.
