Combination of Alcohol and Energy Drinks may Lead to Abnormal Heartbeat
A new study conducted by researchers at University of Tasmania has found that combining alcohol with energy drinks may not be good for the health as it could lead to heart palpitations and disturbed sleep.
College students and young adults often mix alcohol with energy drinks as it may keep them more alert even when drunk. However such a practice may come with some serious downsides as it leads to negative physiological side effects associated with over-stimulation.

Around 403 Australians between 18 and 35 years of age took part in the study with researchers comparing their alcohol level consumption with the consumption of alcohol and energy drinks (AmEDs) over the past six months. The researchers found that those who consumed AmEDs complained of sleep difficulties, heart palpitations, tremors, irritability and tension.

“Drinking energy drinks and alcohol together may provide a double-edged effect. The increased stimulation from energy drinks may negate some intoxication-related sedation side effects by increasing alertness. However, it could also lead to negative physiological side effects associated with over-stimulation”, the researchers write in their report.
