Coco-Cola Company Plots New Plans to Increase the Sales of Diet Soda in the US
The next thing added to the list of extinction is none other than the popular drink “diet soda” in the US. The reason behind this is that the sales of the diet coke brand has declined 7% over the last three months which has been the trend for a decade.//
Sandy Douglas, president of Coca-Cola, North America said "It's a good dietary change, actually, for the country. But the impact on categories, and particularly categories that are appealing to diet-oriented positions, has been pretty negative," he said.

He attributes that people are looking for fresh foods and are moving away from diet and frozen products in recent years.

Soda drinkers are still opting for regular coke than the diet coke. Earlier there were speculations over the health consequences of aspartame, an artificial sweetener used in soda. Both regular coke and diet coke has aspartame but the reason behind the diet coke’s decline is still unknown.

Regular Coke remains the most popular soda. Diet soda was the country's second-most-popular soda. Last year, however, its ranking slipped to No. 3, with regular Pepsi taking its No. 2 spot.

To boost Diet Coke's performance, Douglas said the company is looking at offering "adjacent innovation" in its lineup. However another diet soda made with aspartame called Coke Zero is enjoying growth, according to Coca-Cola. But that drink is far smaller, with 1.8% market share last year when compared with 8.5% for Diet Coke.
