Chloroform Leads to the Death of Three Tribals in Tripura

Three Tribal died in the North Eastern State of Tripura after they drank chloroform. Two were ill and taken to hospital. Among the dead were two women as confirmed by the Tripura Police.

"A group of tribal men and women consumed large amounts of chloroform as alcohol at Kamalpur village in Dhalai district, 145 km from here Saturday night. Five of them fell ill and were rushed to a government hospital, where three died," a police spokesman said.

The villagers took the intoxicating substance after a social function at a tribal leader's house. Police have arrested the tribal leader.

Four tribal youths had died after consuming ethyl alcohol at Gangachara in the same district in October last year.
