Chinese authorities have busted a ring of workshops producing millions of counterfeit condoms of some of the biggest brand names in the central and eastern parts of the country.
Around 4.65 million packaged condoms of some of the biggest names, including Durex, Contex and Jissbon, were seized by the police along with 1,100 pounds of unpackaged condoms in southeast province of Fujian. The crackdown was made after a cop found that an online store, Taobao.com, was selling condoms at ridiculously cheap prices.
On testing some of the condoms, he found that they were fakes and the police traced the underground chain of workshops through the online store. Around 37 people have been arrested so far after the police carried out raids in Fujian, Zhejiang and Henan provinces on March 29.
