Children's Television Giving Its Little Viewers Nightmares!

by Tanya Thomas on May 14 2009 10:13 AM

A new poll has found that thanks to violent 'children's television shows' like Ben 10, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers, millions of kids under 7 have regular nightmares.

A study of 3,000 parents for TheBabyWebsite.com claims that such programmes force children to grow up too quickly and can encourage bad behaviour.

In the study, over 70 per cent of parents said the youngsters had regular bad dreams because of programmes like Ben 10.

Also many felt broadcasters are too lenient about the content - with some shows overly violent and aggressive.

And some, like Hannah Montana, encouraged kids to grow up too fast.

According to the poll, two thirds struggle to decide which programmes are suitable for their children, reports The Sun.

They call for age certificates to be screened before programmes.
