Child Prostitution Racket Busted in the United States

by Savitha C Muppala on Jun 26 2008 5:11 PM

A sting operation by the Justice department in the United States led to the rescue of 21 children from prostitution. Nearly 345 people have been arrested after the crackdown on the network of pimps, who forced children into prostitution.

Sixteen cities of the United States were targeted for the sting operation, carried out during this week. Labeled as “Operation Cross Country”, the exercise found that many of the children who were into prostitution had abandoned home or were ‘thrown-away’.

Since 2003, 433 children have been rescued. 308 pimps have also faced prosecution in the State and Federal courts.

The crack down on the network of pimps was initiated to check the burgeoning growth of child prostitution in recent years, spurred by online networks that promoted advertisement of kids to lure prospective clients.
