Cell Phones may Not Cause Cancer in Kids

The uncertainty over cell phones’ ability to cause cancer continues with a new study published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute now stating that cell phones do not cause cancer in children. Researchers, led by Denis Aydin of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, observed the cell phone habits of over 1,000 children in Western Europe between 7 to 19 years of age, of which over 352 had brain tumors, and came to the conclusion that the risk of brain cancer was not greater among those who used cell phones compared to those who did not.

The researchers said that while children’s brains do absorb more cell phone energy compared to an adult brain, it was due to the fact that the skulls are smaller.

The radio frequencies emitted by cell phones were also too weak to damage DNA or cause mutations which lead to cancer.
