Cancer Research UK Launches Mobile Game to Speed Up Search for New Cancer Drugs
British cancer charity organization, Cancer Research UK, has joined hands with a number of internet biggies, including Google, Facebook and Amazon, in developing a mobile game that can speed up the search for new cancer drugs.
The organization will be holding a ‘GameJam’ weekend where more than 40 programmers, gamers, graphic designers and other specialists will try to covert the organization’s raw data into a game format.

The event will be held from March 1-3 in London following which an agency will try to develop a game concept using the format with Cancer Research UK hoping to launch the game by mid-2013.

“We're making great progress in understanding the genetic reasons cancer develops. But the clues to why some drugs will work and some won't are held in data which need to be analyzed by the human eye - and this could take years. By harnessing the collective power of citizen scientists we'll accelerate the discovery of new ways to diagnose and treat cancer much more precisely”, Cancer Research UK’s Carlos Caldas said.
