British Town's New 'Sperm' Logo Sparks Protests

A new logo of a British town, which has a history of high levels of teen pregnancy, has been criticized as it apparently looks like sperm.

The town council of Ilfracombe in North Devon has designed the logo in association with a marketing company as part of its efforts to boost tourism.

The authorities explained that the re-branding intended to "encapsulate Ilfracombe's fascinating and appealing attributes into one logo, strap line and brand".

However, the residents of the town are dismayed with the logo's similarity to sperm.

A post on the council's website from a person named Lee, read: "How on earth did they miss the sperm? On the plus side, they could always market themselves as the 'most fertile town in England'."

Another blogger, calling himself Victor Meldrew, said: "Well it's got people talking about Ilfracombe. The problem is they all seem to link Ilfracombe with sperm."

However, designer Tessa Martin has a different opinion.

She said: "The new Ilfracombe logo, with its idiosyncratic 'swirl' above the 'i' indicates intrigue, mystery and drama expressed with a spot of humour and fun too.

"It also reflects the twists and turns of the landscape and can conjure up thoughts of the seaside, sea, an ice cream, the harbor and fish."

The logo includes a strap line "Curious Coastal Charm," reports The Sun.

Ilfracombe has the second highest teenage conception rate in Devon.
