Britain Is Moving In Favor Of Sustainable Long-Term Relationships

A new study says that flings are no more the 'in-thing' as an overwhelming 95 percent of Britons want a long-term relationship.

A further two-thirds favored marriage as it showed commitment, the LoveGeist Report 2009, which polled more than 16,000 people, found.

The reports also revealed that 55 per cent of men and 51 per cent of women thought that marriage was the best way to bring up children, reports The Daily Express.

Report author Dr. Monica Whitty, a Nottingham Trent University psychologist, said: "A new cultural shift is afoot.

"It suggests Britain is moving away from its throw-away culture in favor of sustainable long-term relationships."

Jason Stockwood, of match. com, which commissioned the report, said this was behind a surge in internet dating.

He said: "Dating sites allow you to be specific about what and who you want."
