Boy With Cystic Fibrosis Gene Mutation Asked by School to Get a Transfer
A 11-year old boy in California has been asked by his school to transfer himself somewhere else after the school authorities found that he carried a mutation of the gene that leads to cystic fibrosis.
Colman Chadam was ordered by administrators of Jordan Middle School in Palo Alto to leave the school as he carried the genetic mutation for cystic fibrosis, though he does not have the disease or has displayed any symptoms.

The school said that while the disease is not contagious, the risk of bacterial cross contamination for students who already have the disease means he could be a risk for the students.

However Colman’s parents said that their son poses no risk to other students and added that the school has overreacted. Speaking to the San Francisco Chronicle, Colman’s mother Jennifer Chadam said, “They made this decision without seeing one medical record on my son. If I felt Colman was a risk to others, I would move him. I don't want anyone to get sick.”
