BMC Conducts Pulse Polio Vaccination for 8, 09, 000 Children

by Savitha C Muppala on Nov 9 2009 5:11 PM

The monthly pulse polio vaccination drive has begun in Mumbai and has already covered 8, 09, 000 children out of the total 13, 10,000 five year old children, in the first day itself.

Dr Mangala Gomare, the in charge for this campaign said, "We reorganized the booths. The volunteers were told to be strict in their approach. On the evening of the first day, the volunteers started going door-to-door to vaccinate children. People take this for granted and do not come to the booths. But from now on, Sundays will be strictly for going to the booth."

The drive assumes a dual purpose this time. The door to door vaccination drive will not only offer protection against polio but will also check if any of the family members have fever or any other disease.

"When volunteers go on their drive from Monday, they will also conduct a survey to detect whether anyone in the family has fever or any other ailment," said Dr Gomare.
