If you are feeling a bit depressed today then you can clearly blame it on Blue Monday, the third Monday of January which has been found to be the most depressing day of the year.
First coined by psychologist Cliff Arnall, Blue Monday is a combination of minimal amount of sunlight, failed new year resolutions, lack of motivation and being poorer following an expensive holiday season end to the last year.
While Blue Monday is usually dismissed as junk science with an aim of enticing potential customers into booking holidays to sunnier climate, Arnall claimed that he arrived at the conclusion after following a scientific formula.
Writing in a press release for the now defunct travel channel, Sky Travel, Arnall said, "It is the combination of factors that make life right now particularly uncertain. There is threat of job redundancy and the cost of food and fuel are going up."
