Basketball Players Wear Funky Shoes to Promote Cancer Awareness
The professional basketball team, Portland Trail Blazers, commonly called, the Blazers, are based in Portland, Oregon. The players have worn different-colored shoes throughout the 2014-15 season to create awareness and money for pediatric cancer. //
When the team was headed by coach Jerod Haase, the Blazers adopted a young cancer survivor named Elijah Seritt during head first season at University of Alabama. Seritt was diagnosed with primary brain tumor (medulloblastoma) when he was just 19 months old.

"We wanted to do something to recognize Elijah’s courageous battle and his role on our team. We immediately thought wearing two different colors of shoes would cause fans to ask why and give us a perfect opportunity to raise awareness for pediatric cancer," Haase said.

The team is in partnership with the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children’s of Alabama to extend their helping hand.
