A new study presented at the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology meet in San Diego has revealed that avocado oil may have anti-aging properties similar to those exhibited by olive oil.
Olive oil has long been associated with treating signs of aging and cancer and now researchers in Mexico have found that avocado oil, which is similar in composition to olive oil, can also be used as an anti-aging agent.
Researchers found that avocado oil successfully managed to combat the destructive effects of oxygen free radicals that play a major role in developing signs of aging. Researchers revealed that avocado oil was effective against mitochondrial free radicals which are usually not affected by the antioxidants acquired from vegetables and fruits.
"These results could be attributed to the fact that avocado oil caused accelerated respiration in mitochondria, which indicate that the use of nutrients for producing energy for cell functions remains effective even in cells attacked by free radicals", University Michoacana de San Nicolas de Hidalgo's Mr Cortes-Rojo said.
