Australia to Celebrate DonateLife Week in August
Australia is all set for the DonateLife Week which is to be held from 30th July -6th August, 2017.This event is conducted every year to promote awareness about the importance of registering as an organ donor. Registration for organ donation is important as it helps families to take right decisions at the unfortunate event of one’s death.
According to DonateLife, nine in ten families agree for organ donation when the deceased is registered as an organ donor. On the other hand, only five in ten families agree for donation if the deceased has not registered. It is for this reason that the Australian Government considers registration as the key step to increase the country’s organ donation rates.

The Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA), an independent statutory agency was established in the year of 2009 and works as part of the Australian Government’s national reform program. This program aims at increasing the capacity of healthcare system of Australia to maximize organ donations and also to increase public awareness about the same. OTA manages the program through DonateLife agencies in the states.

The data from DonateLife says that more than 1400 Australians waiting for a life saving transplant on the waiting list and approximately 12000 Australians on Dialysis. While 81% believe registration is important only 34% of people aged above 16 have actually registered to be organ donors. Registration and informing your family members about your decision is as important as organ donation. Social media can also act as a good medium to create awareness about these topics.

DonateLife invites you to not only register as an organ donor but also to promote the importance of registration to the public. Through the generous deed of organ donation, a single organ and tissue donor can save the lives of ten people and transform the lives of many more around them. Registering as an organ donor brings you one step closer towards saving lives after your life.
