Army Gives First-aid Training To Jammu Youths

Youths belonging to remote mountainous village of Poonch district received training from the army in Jammu and Kashmir to offer medical assistance in any given or unforeseen situation. An army spokesman said a group of 20 youths from Daraba village, 220 km north-west of Jammu, was given six days' training.

"The aim of the training was to increase medical awareness among the people of backward areas and help them in adopting healthier life style and reduce morbidity rate," the spokesman said.

The training was given under Operation Sadbhavna (goodwill) of the army and youths attended both theoretical classes and practical training sessions.

It included dressing of wound (cut wound, burn injuries), first-aid to people suffering from bites, stings, bruises, fractures, foreign object in the body, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, accidental bleeding and heart attack.

Hazi Kabir, village head of Daraba, said: "The first-aid skills imparted to the youths would give them the required confidence to help someone in an emergency and thereby save someone's life."

"We enjoyed the training and now we are confident of providing first-aid to the needy," said Shafkat Hussain, a trainee.
