Apollo Hospitals Wednesday tied up with Deccan Aviation to launch air ambulance services from the city. In a joint statement, the two partners said the service will ferry critical patients and accident victims on board Deccan helicopters to the New Apollo Hospitals in the city for emergency healthcare. Immediate treatment during the flight will also be provided.
"The 250-bed multi-specialty tertiary care unit will be linked to the air ambulance service that can be used by patients or mishap victims for urgent medical attention and thus save precious lives," Apollo hospital chief operating officer Umapathy Panyala said.As air evacuations are an expensive proposition, the partners are in talks with insurance firms to include air evacuation in medical insurance policies. "Medical insuranc e cover will enable us to extend the service to patients availing the policy and make the facility affordable," Panyala said.
Deccan Aviation will provide the copter service, while Apollo emergency specialists will be in the air ambulance with equipment to treat patients or accident victims during the flight to the hospital from any where in the state.
"Air ambulance services are used in cases where transport by ground ambulance could endanger the life of a patient or in remote areas where there is no ground accessibility," Panyala noted.
