American Center Hosted Lecture on 'Ebola and Global Health Security Paradox'

The United States Center for Disease Control (US CDC) and Prevention hosted a lecture by Director Dr. Tom Frieden at The American Center on Monday, August 10, 2015. The lecture, which began at 7 pm, focused on how the world is both better prepared for and at a greater risk from health threats than ever and what we can do about it.

US Ambassador to India Richard Verma made the opening remarks and introduced Dr. Frieden. Dr. Frieden's visit to New Delhi is focused on the ongoing collaborations between the Government of India's Health and Family Welfare and the US CDC with the intent of discussing new initiatives as it relates to the global health security agenda.

Increasing Cases of Infectious Diseases as Well as Lifestyle Disorders in Mumbai
Out of 90,552 deaths in 2013-14, 6496 were due to tuberculosis, 5055 due to complications arising out of hypertension and 2472 due to diabetes.

The global health security agenda will highlight the need for every country to be prepared to address emerging infectious diseases such as Ebola.
