African Youngster Able to Smile After Doctors Remove Massive Tumor from Her Face
An 8-year old girl from Uganda is able to smile once again after a team of doctors in Britain performed a 15-hour surgery to remove two kilogram tumor growing on her face.
Triny Amuhirwe’s mother, Sarah, revealed that the tumor started to grow when her daughter was just one year old and had soon grown big enough to make it difficult for her to eat. Doctors revealed that the tumor would have continued to grow and there was a very big risk that it would have suffocated her in the end.

An American nurse came across Triny last year and sent her photographs to British charity Facing the World, asking whether anything could be done. The charity organization then contacted a network of specialists who agreed to perform the surgery, which would have otherwise cost £65,000, for free.

“No mother should have to watch their child go through what I have. But for the first time in Triny’s life, I finally believe there is hope. When she woke up with a smile, that was one of the happiest days of my life. The transformation has been amazing”, Sarah said.
