Health officials revealed that people drank an adulterated form of Tyno cough syrup with 21 losing their lives at the DHQ Hospital in Gujranwala district while another four people died in different hospitals in Lahore.

The officials said that majority of the deceased were drug addicts and had drank the adulterated syrup in order to get intoxicated.

Doctors and relatives of the deceased also claimed that medical shop owners continue to sell the cough syrup without asking any prescriptions, forcing police to conduct raids and have so far bagged 7,700 bottles of the tainted syrup.
