India-Based Aditya Mehta Foundation Trains 5 Para-athletes in Hyderabad

The Aditya Mehta Foundation (AMF), Hyderabad, India, provided five para-athletes from across country with sports gear and prosthetic limbs on April 27. The AMF will also train these athletes in cycling, swimming, cricket and badminton.

Cyclist Aditya Mehta, spurned by the larger society in his efforts to raise support for para-athletes, decided to take action. To help para-athletes like him to excel in sport, he cycled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and Manali to Khardungla to raise Rs. 4.5 lakh.

Animal right activist Amala Akkineni and model Shilpa Reddy presented the gear on behalf of the foundation to the beneficiaries which include Dharmana Shanmukha Rao, a below knee amputee & para cyclist; Bholanath Dalui, an above knee amputee and para-swimmer, Girish Sharma, a para-badminton player, Rakesh Banik, an above knee amputee and Harshit Mundra, a para cyclist.

Amala said, “Several of us with both the legs intact don’t undertake such adventurous and treacherous rides, while he not only set out but completed them successfully. He is a true inspiration to all of us. His noble task of setting up Aditya Mehta Foundation to support fellow para-athletes is praiseworthy.”

AMF would start training para-athletes through camps in Hyderabad, which will be conducted every two months. Aditya Mehta will train para-athletes in cycling; senior para-athletes Bholanath Dalui and Srinivas Naidu will train in swimming and Girish Sharma will train in badminton.
