Princess Eugenie, the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson has revealed that she underwent an 8-hour intense surgery when she was 12 years of age. She was operated upon to repair a severe curvature of the spine (known as scoliosis).
Explaining the complicated surgery, Eugenie said that eight pins were placed in her back during the operation, leaving her in intensive care for three days, followed by six days in a wheelchair.
The Princess opened up about the memory to London's Telegraph newspaper during a recent visit to London's Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, where her own surgery took place.
"I've got the scar on my back," the US Magazine quoted her as telling the mother of a current 16-year-old patient undergoing scoliosis surgery.
Encouraging the young patient, Eugenie said, "it hurts so much, I was in so much pain, get better!"
The Princess's scoliosis was discovered by accident when she was getting a massage.
