A poll has revealed that a majority of young girls in the age group of 11-18 years do not look up to stars like Britney Spears, Amy Winehouse and Lindsay Lohan, labeling them ‘stupid’.

The survey for Sugar magazine and drugs information service revealed the preferences of young girls when it comes down to teen-idols, drugs and boys.

A meager 5pct of young girls were fascinated by the excessive lifestyles of these so-called teen-idols.

However, more than 80pct in the survey for Frank said that the stars looked stupid and needed help.

It was disclosed in the poll that 13pct of teenagers admitted to have tried drugs. Most (87pct) have not, while a third (33pct) had smoked and bunked off school (34pct).

Amongst those who had not tried drugs, 21pct were worried that they might come under pressure to do so.

However, the majority (63pct) of teenage girls said that famous names did not influence them, but it was friends (87pct) and older peers (58pct) whom they looked up to.

About one fifth (21pct) of teenage girls thought that boys would find them cool if they took drugs. However, a whopping 80pct considered boys who took drugs as "losers" or "stupid".

Of those who had tried drugs, almost 10pct did it under the recommendations of friends and 11pct said they liked the way it made them look or feel.

"This research shows that teenagers are far more clued up than they are usually given credit for. The survey respondents clearly know their own minds and where they stand on drugs which is that the majority of them don't wish to do them,” the Daily Snack quoted Frank spokesperson Sarah Graham, as saying.

She added: "It's great that so many young people feel they have the confidence to stand up for themselves."
