A new study has stated that women's voices remain steady throughout their menstrual cycle and the hormonal changes do not make any difference to the voice quality. This study contradicts previous studies which say that the tone of women's voices rises as ovulation approaches.

May be this difference was due to the difference in the study approach. Previous researchers analyzed single vowel tones, but we speak in sentences and not in single vowels. However, during the recent study scientists studied 175 recorded voice samples of 35 female participants at four points during their menstrual cycle. Researchers selected a sentence which was rich in voice and provides a variety of voice characteristics. A voice analysis software was used to measure 8 different voice parameters like degree of voice breaks, fundamental frequency and shimmer which showed no difference in the voice during the menstrual cycle or in women who used hormonal contraceptives.

The study will be presented at the American Physiological Society's Experimental Biology meeting, in Washington, D.C.
