Woman With Rare Skin Disease Dies
Gunasundari had developed a rare allergic reaction to drugs known as Steven Johnsons Syndrome that causes the outer layer of the skin to peel. Doctors at the hospital revealed that she choked on her dinner on Sunday and was put on a life support system before she died of a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
The hospital has come under some heat over the case with Gunasundari's husband AR Ramanath filing a medical negligence case with the Madras High Court even as the police maintains that it was a natural death.
Stating that the patient had already developed Steven Johnson Syndrome even before she was brought to the hospital, the medical superintendent in charge, Dr V Palani said that she was on an anti-epilepsy pill for the past three months after giving birth to her child.
She had severe respiratory distress and was put on ventilator for two days. On Wednesday, she developed cardiac arrest and died, Dr Palani added.

Hello all,
This report has been a totally infamous one slandering the doctor and hospital alike owing to the medical ignorance of the public and publicity seekingn plaintiff.
I have known Dr. Chandrika for the past 20 years both as my Physician and a family friend. She is wonderful both ways.
Medically SJS is medium to rare and is ethnically related. The SJS was more on account of protracted Carbamepazine use by the patient for her epilepsy than a simple drug IMOL which is administered even to infants. Patient being medically unaware had failed to mention his epileptic history.
Whether the death was on account of SJS induced septicemia or the previously existant epilepsy is ambigous. Since it is impossible to claim compensation of the Govt hospital, the plaintiff has done so from the private one.

Investigation shall be conducted by third person so that the truth would come out,the medical records should be seized and taken into custody of the independent investigating officer so as to see that the medical records are not maipulated to suit the needs and requirements of the doctors.Since the case involves medical negligence.Impartial investigation has to be conducted at the earliest.
