A new study published in the journal Psychopharmacology suggests that a whiff of oxytocin hormone could be enough to make introverts exhibit extroverted behavior and be more open to ideas.

The study was conducted by researchers at Concordia University in Montreal and involved more than 100 students. The researchers gave the studies a nasal spray filled with oxytocin or a placebo and asked them to fill out a questionnaire on how they felt 90 minutes later.

The researchers found that those who inhaled the hormone had average higher scores for feelings of extroversion. These individuals also felt ready for openness to experiences and idea, positive emotions as well as feelings of warmth

“Our study shows oxytocin can change how people see themselves, which could in turn make people more sociable ... Under the effects of oxytocin, a person can perceive themselves as more extroverted, more open to new ideas and more trusting”, lead researcher Mark Ellenbogen said.
