In a recent research led by Tina Kold Jensen, from Copenhagen University Hospital in Denmark, she revealed that the men who were habitual drinkers of a liter or more of cold drinks in a day face a threat to their fertility, as it affects the sperm count in males by 30%.

This research seeking to know the effect of increasing cold drink consumption among the Danish youngsters used more than 2500 youngsters to inspect the caffeine content in the cold drinks and tested for causing infertility and any other negative impact on the reproductive system.

It revealed that there was a 30% drop in the sperm count i.e. 35 million sperm per milliliter than people who were occasional drinkers whose count was 50 million sperm per milliliter. However the lower count is not considered by WHO to be a leading cause of infertility.

Another reason that caffeine alone cannot be blamed for causing the problems is that it is also found in coffee, and that too in a higher amount. There was also the fact that those who drank that many cold drinks were also indulging in junk food, thus living an unhealthier lifestyle. Then the participants have generally been from a very select group, such as infertile men, and the results have been contradictory. Thus till the verdict is out it is better to cut ones intake of colas among males.
