A new health report has urged the government to cut down on free treatments provided by the NHS and punish unhealthy citizens who refuse to change their lifestyle.
Titled "Visions of Britain 2020", the report created by insurance group Friends Provident and the Future Foundation warns that the NHS cannot cope with the rising strain of free treatments provided to unhealthy Britons and warn that unless those who refuse to change their unhealthy lifestyle are punished, major problems will arise in the future for the organization.
AdvertisementThe report went on to predict that they see a number of treatments, such as obesity surgery, IVF and fertility treatment and dental treatments, not being provided for free by the end of the next decade.
"We all know that we should follow a healthy low-fat diet, eat at least five (portions of fruit and vegetables) a day etc. But how many actually do anything about it? Unless an unhealthy diet and lifestyle is penalized in some way no-one will change", said Dr Sarah Brewer who worked on the report.
