US Authorities Mulling on Whether to Add Anti-Cholesterol Drugs to Drinking Water
According to reports, the US health authorities want the addition of statins in the drinking water which will help the drinkers reduce cholesterol and thereby avoid the risk of heart disease. Statins are artificially produced drugs that are known to reduce cholesterol and help people with heart disease.
While many health experts have admitted that adding statins to drinking water could prove to be beneficial, recent studies have proved that the consumption of such drugs could be harmful for people who do not have cholesterol or heart disease.
According to the recently published research by Cochrane Library, Statins should only be prescribed to those with heart disease, or who have suffered the condition in the past. Researchers warn that unless a patient is at high risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke, statins may cause more harm than good.

In 2004, the March of Dimes issued this warning:
New England Journal of Medicine Alert on Statins
The April 8, 2004 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine contains a letter-to-the-editor from two physicians at the National Institutes of Health entitled, âCentral Nervous System and Limb Anomalies in Case Reports of First-Trimester Statin Exposure.â This letter raises an alert
about statins, a class of prescription drugs used for lowering cholesterol. The generic names of these drugs include atorvastatin, simvastatin, and lovastatin. Statins are being prescribed more and more commonly because more Americans are overweight and have elevated cholesterol levels, a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. This means that more women of childbearing age are taking these drugs and â because at least half of all pregnancies in the United States are unplanned â more women in the early months of pregnancy are inadvertently exposing their fetuses to statins. This is a great concern to the March of Dimes.

I'd really like to know the source of this ridiculous claim! The UK proposed adding statins to drinking water and it was "shot down". It's bad enough that fluoride is added to USA drinking water. Statins! I suggest the "US Authorities" that are mulling over adding statins to our water, well they should take the drug for 8 years like my husband did and tell me how they feel as their memory loss progresses to the point of needing 24/7 assistance with all daily activities. He also has Parkinson's type symptoms.
US Authorities need to look at all the data that statins can cause: muscle damage [which can lead to rhabdomyolysis and ultimately death], memory loss, neurological conditions such as ALS, Parkinson's, etc.), cataracts, cancer, etc. There is a long list of ADR (adverse drug reactions) to ALL statin drugs. |
