A Briton who was selling unlicensed slimming pills on the internet has been sentenced to a six-month jail term.
David Green, who lives in the Glebe Farm Close area in Sheffield, was supplying slimming pills on auction sites without any prescription even though the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency had repeatedly warned him about the dangers of selling such drugs without any prescription.
However when Green continued to sell the pills in spite of the warnings, the 44-year old was arrested and pleaded guilty to advertising and selling the pills without a license in the Sheffield Crown Court.
"The products being sold by Mr Green have undergone no quality control and he continued selling these products even after he was made aware of the dangers of what he was doing. You simply don't know what you are taking, the dosage, the conditions it was made in or most importantly, the effect it might have on your health", Danny Lee-Frost, MHRA head of operations, said.
