A transgender man in the US has revealed that he is five-months pregnant.

Thomas Beatie, a resident of Oregon, told The Advocate that carrying a girl for his wife, Nancy, and himself was an ‘incredible’ experience.

Beatie was born as a woman but later he had a chest reconstruction and testosterone therapy, but decided to keep his female reproductive organs.

When Nancy had to have a hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis 20 years ago, the couple started thinking about Thomas carrying their child.

"I stopped taking my bimonthly testosterone injections. It had been roughly eight years since I had my last menstrual cycle, so this wasn’t a decision that I took lightly," News.com.au quoted Beatie, as saying.

"My body regulated itself after about four months, and I didn’t have to take any exogenous estrogen, progesterone, or fertility drugs to aid my pregnancy,” he said.

This is Beatie's second pregnancy. The first was an ectopic pregnancy with triplets.

"It was a life-threatening event that required surgical intervention, resulting in the loss of all embryos and my right fallopian tube," he said.

"When my brother found out about my loss, he said, 'It’s a good thing that happened. Who knows what kind of monster it would have been',” he added.

But the couple’s decision has not been accepted well by outsiders.

"Doctors have discriminated against us, turning us away due to their religious beliefs. Health care professionals have refused to call me by a male pronoun or recognise Nancy as my wife," he said.

Why has this "stunned" anyone ? For goodness sake, this man was born a woman, and kept the female anatomy? Why is this sooooo stunning that he/she is now pregnant ???????

I agree that professionals should remain professionals in these circumstances - no matter how bizare the situation, however I will not apologise for the fact that I think it is ridiculas to be calling this a MALE pregnancy, given that this person was born a female NOT a MALE and whether has chosen to wear female clothing or go the next step and alter certain body parts etc, the fact remains, they were born a female with female parts. Goodluck with it all, but for heavens sake - lets stop with the MALE pregnancy rubbish. Still wondering if everything has been changed below... just how much has infact been converted to the Male gender - I take it it wont be born naturally, but by ceaser... it does not appear to me that much other than cosmetics have really been altered here. Also curious just how she/he got pregnant... if REALLY a male, how did her/his wife impregnate her/him... I only know of sea horses being able to do this naturally. But I must admit - I do feel sorry for the child and its future - wonder if the parents have bothered to think about the child other than themselves - if thinking about the child - perhaps it would have been best to keep this private for its future sake, rather than trying to make the most of the public lime light - rather sad really.

I think the way you have been treated, according to this article, is disgusting. I believe if this is the only way for you and your wife to have a baby then so be it, it is entirely your choice. Having a baby is a beautiful blessing. Congratulations and Good Luck.

I agree. no matter what, you were born a female, and especialy because you still have female reproductive organs, and are carrying a baby, you are still technicaly female although you would like to be called otherwise. thats ok. but the 'professionals' should remain professional. it is still your baby and good luck to you.

I'm sorry but this is not a MALE pregnancy. This is a female no matter how many hormones he/she pumped through her system over the years. I agree that this couple should not be discriminated against by medical professionals regardless of how they live their lives but I still say, this is not a male pregnancy. She still has a uterous and ovaries..

Shame on those so called medical "professionals" that mistreat anyone.

We are all human beings and personally I am happy for any couple that want children and they are able to achieve it. Good for them.
