"Plaque forms when decay-causing bacteria attach to the surface of tooth enamel, forming a sticky film. This can build up and harden around tooth and gum margins," experts say. Plaque bacteria release acids that weaken tooth enamel and increase the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

Some tips to reduce dental plaque
* Chewing gums containing Xylitol or Sorbitol, sugar substitutes have a plaque-reducing effect. A couple of gums per day should help.
* Olive oil has anti-cavity properties, according to University of Madrid researchers, who also found that the oil contains a substance called as oleuropein, an anti-bacterial compound that stops plaque bacteria.
* Green tea, red wine and cranberry juice contain polyphenols, which are known to reduce bacteria formation.

Another important step to prevent plaque is to choose a good toothpaste and brush twice daily.

Xylitol is non cariogenic while Sorbitol is low-cariogenic. Sorbitol does not share the same effectiveness in preventing tooth decay as Xylitol, but is still a better alternative to sugar. Spray chewing gum is only sweetened with Xylitol which makes it the best one on the market

IMO.
