Ever heard of a pub being “too loud”? Strange but Brits enjoying their Saturday night outs pub-hopping may soon be shown the door if the pub- is too loud! A task force which hopes to check the rapid growth of the binge-drinking epidemic in Britain is planning to turn down the volume of music in pubs and bars.

Landlords could be forced to outlaw all entertainment louder than 70 decibels - as loud as a hairdryer - to curb alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behavior.

The reaction follows a French study that proved that alcohol intake bumped up with loud music.

The study found that number of drinks ordered augmented from 2.6 to 3.4 when loud music was played. The time taken to drink a small beer also fell from 14 to 11 minutes.

"This is a desperate attempt," The Daily Star quoted Shadow Home Secretary Dominic Grieve, 52, as saying.

"Putting police on the street and enforcing laws already in place would do more to combat alcohol-fuelled disorder," Grieve added.

Mark Hasting of the British Beer and Pub Association said: "There is absolutely no evidence to suggest a link between music and binge drinking."
